In France, normal life seems to be just around the corner. As the vaccination campaign goes on, the third step of the lockdown exit scheme has started on June 9, 2021. But for the government, letting the guard down is out of the question. The Delta variant – formerly known as the Indian variant – is still very concerning.
This Tuesday June 15, French Health Minister Olivier Véran addressed the spread of this coronavirus variant in France. He states that although it remains in minority, it keeps on spreading. 2 to 4% of tests assessed show it is here, which represents an average of 50 to 150 new cases per day, instead of 0.5% as of May 25, 2021. A data relatively low, but Véran warns: “You’ll say it’s a little, but it was the UK situation a few weeks ago”.
In the United Kingdom, the situation is such the lockdown exit has been delayed for three weeks. Therefore, Prime Minister calls the French to be cautious, two weeks before curfew is lifted and facemask-wearing is no longer mandatory outside as the warmer weather is coming. “The example from our UK neighbors must bid us to be cautious, brave and united”.
