From January 1, 2025, a single €2.50 ticket will replace the different fares currently in force for metro, RER and regional train journeys throughout the Île-de-France region. The change, officially approved at the Île-de-France Mobilités board meeting on Tuesday November 12, is designed to simplify fare options for users, reducing fare combinations from 50,000 to just two tickets. According to Valérie Pécresse, President of Île-de-France Mobilités, this is a genuine "ticketing revolution" in line with the Navigo pass dezoning policy initiated in 2015.
From now on, users will be able to choose between a one-way ticket at €2.50 valid for journeys on the metro, train and RER, regardless of geographical area, and a second ticket at €2 for journeys on the bus and streetcar. For the latter, the fare is raised to €2.50 if purchased directly from the driver, a dissuasive measure designed to encourage advance ticket purchase. There are still exceptions to this simplification of fares, and some on-demand transport services are not affected by the reform.
For Parisians, this reform means an increase in the price of the metro ticket from €2.15 to €2.50, marking the disappearance of the ten-ticket booklet that used to allow travel at €1.73 per journey. On the other hand, for commuters from further afield, particularly on RER and Transilien trains, this single fare brings real savings, significantly reducing costs for journeys previously priced between €3.20 and €5. Île-de-France Mobilités thus intends to make the fare system fairer and more accessible, regardless of users' location.
