From January 1, 2025, a single €2.50 ticket will replace the different fares currently in force for metro, RER and regional train journeys throughout the Île-de-France region. The change, officially approved at the Île-de-France Mobilités board meeting on Tuesday November 12, is designed to simplify fare options for users, reducing fare combinations from 50,000 to just two tickets. According to Valérie Pécresse, President of Île-de-France Mobilités, this is a genuine "ticketing revolution" in line with the Navigo pass dezoning policy initiated in 2015.

From now on, users will be able to choose between a one-way ticket at €2.50 valid for journeys on the metro, train and RER, regardless of geographical area, and a second ticket at €2 for journeys on the bus and streetcar. For the latter, the fare is raised to €2.50 if purchased directly from the driver, a dissuasive measure designed to encourage advance ticket purchase. There are still exceptions to this simplification of fares, and some on-demand transport services are not affected by the reform.

For Parisians, this reform means an increase in the price of the metro ticket from €2.15 to €2.50, marking the disappearance of the ten-ticket booklet that used to allow travel at €1.73 per journey. On the other hand, for commuters from further afield, particularly on RER and Transilien trains, this single fare brings real savings, significantly reducing costs for journeys previously priced between €3.20 and €5. Île-de-France Mobilités thus intends to make the fare system fairer and more accessible, regardless of users' location.

What is the €2.50 one-way ticket?

Will old tickets still be valid?

Yes, tickets bought before the reform can still be used in 2025, but with certain restrictions. Hard tickets or those loaded onto a Navigo Easy pass or smartphone will only be valid for :

Intra-city metro and RER lines.
Buses and streetcars, as today.
They will remain usable until they run out.

Île-de-France Mobilités would like to remind you of an important instruction: if you are using a Navigo Easy, be sure to use up all the t+ tickets already on the card or on your phone before loading new tickets for the metro, RER, buses or streetcars. The maximum limit on an Easy card or smartphone is 30 t+ tickets.

What are the fares for buses and streetcars?

Bus and streetcar fares will be set at €2, but will rise to €2.50 if you buy the ticket directly from the driver. These tickets remain distinct from the single metro-train-RER ticket, and connections between buses and streetcars are not included in this reform.

What are the exceptions to the single tariff?

Some services are not included in this new pricing:

Special routes to airports such as Orlyval, Orlybus and Roissybus.
Roissy bus: €16.60
Roissy RER: €11.80
Orly bus: €11.50

Is the Liberté+ card more advantageous?

Yes, for regular users, the Liberté+ card offers reduced fares:

1.99 for metro, RER and regional trains.
1.60 for bus and streetcar journeys.
It also offers free connections between different modes of transport, which represents substantial savings for daily travel.

How do I buy the new tickets?

The €2.50 tickets can be :

Loaded onto a Navigo Easy badge, sold for €2.
Purchased via mobile applications such as Bonjour RATP, Île-de-France Mobilités or SNCF Connect.
Available on compatible connected watches (Apple and Samsung).

Please note that you will need to consume all the old tickets on your media before you can load the new tickets.

Is it worth buying tickets before the hike?

It depends on your travel habits:

If you travel exclusively by metro, buying books of 10 tickets for €1.73 before December 31, 2024 may represent a temporary saving.
For occasional users, the Liberté+ card remains an economical alternative, with reduced fares for every journey.

Do Paris Visite and Navigo Jour tickets still exist?

Yes, they will be priced at 29.90€ and 12€ respectively for the day.

How much does the Navigo Mensuel 5 zones cost in January?

The price of the monthly Navigo Pass will rise by 2.8% from January 2025, from €86.40 to €88.80. This increase, confirmed on November 28, 2024, is part of a financial agreement between Île-de-France Mobilités and the government providing for regular increases until 2031.

What are the advantages for residents of the inner suburbs?

This reform is of particular benefit to people living in areas far from Paris. Journeys that used to cost €5 will now be capped at €2.50, a significant reduction for those who regularly use the RER or Transilien.

I already have a Navigo Liberté pass. Do I have to change it in January?

No need to change or get a new pass, the switchover will take place automatically, and from January you'll be able to access the whole of the Île-de-France region.

How much does it cost to take a bus in Ile-de-France?

In 2025, a single fare of 2 euros will apply to all buses in the Paris region, including long-distance lines which previously required the use of two tickets. With the Liberté + pass, a bus or streetcar journey will cost just 1.60 euros.

Will the weekly Navigo fare change?

The Navigo weekday pass will be maintained in 2025. Its fare, to be set when Île-de-France Mobilités elected representatives vote on December 11, could be around 31.60 euros for all zones, subject to confirmation.

When will the Navigo Liberté + go paperless?

Île-de-France Mobilités is announcing this service for "spring 2025". It is currently being tested.

Will the reduced rates for large families, senior citizens, young people or the underprivileged remain?

Yes, reduced fares will be maintained in 2025, with proof of entitlement.

From how many journeys per month is it more advantageous to switch to a monthly or annual Navigo?

According to our estimates, the monthly pass will be profitable from 18 journeys at €2.50 in 2025. With the Liberté + offer, which costs €1.99 per trip, this threshold rises to 23 trips.

Valérie Pécresse assures us that this reform, despite an estimated loss of revenue of 30 million euros per year, will be self-financing thanks to a slight increase in transport ridership, expected to be between 1 and 2%. Nevertheless, some members of the opposition point to a lack of upstream consultation and express doubts as to the feasibility of this self-financing.

Although Parisians who only use the metro will see an increase, this reform represents a major simplification of fares for journeys outside the capital, and should ultimately encourage smoother mobility between the different zones of theÎle-de-France region.
