As the epidemic situation is improving in France, the spread of the variant Delta (ex-Indian) might cause a fourth wave. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, it might be dominant in the European Union by the end of August.

Should we already get prepared for a fourth wave? As the French are enjoying new-found freedom, specifically thanks to the improving vaccination campaign, the coronavirus epidemic chapter does not seem to come to a close. This time, the variant Delta – formerly known as the Indian variant – is worrying.

The world attended the sudden outbreak of coronavirus cases in India with this strain. In the United Kingdom, its spread is also of concern. According to estimations from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control via AFP, the variant Delta is to be found in 70% of new Covid-19 new cases by early August.

But the threat does not stop to the UK borders. This particularly contagious mutation might represent 90% of new coronavirus cases in the European Union by the end of August. To limit the risks related to the scenario of a fourth epidemic wave, the body warns against slackening over the summer 2021 and highly recommends to keep on getting vaccinated.
