The variant Delta, called “Indian”, is worrying scientists and governments more and more. In France, Jean Castex and Olivier Véran were visiting Landes this Thursday June 24; a department where the variant Delta is now found in 70% of positive cases. The day before, the government spokesman admitted there was a “variant Delta-related threat” in the country.
This Friday June 25, 2021, professor Alain Fischer sounds the alarm. “The Indian variant will take over, it is clear, as it has in Great Britain”, the Head of the Vaccinal Strategy Orientation Board claimed this Friday morning on LCI.
So, what can one do to limit the spread of the variant Delta in the country? According to Alain Fischer, “to be able to control the [Indian] variant with herd immunity, we need 80% of the population – including all age groups – be protected through vaccine or infection”.
Professor Alain Fischer reminded how important it is to be vaccinated. “We need to make even more efforts for people keep on getting vaccinated, and specifically those who have not been vaccinated at all”, he added.
Already a few days ago, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control said the variant Delta could dominate in the European Union by the end of August.
