In France, the coronavirus epidemic-related situation keeps on deteriorating and looks familiar. In compliance with the scientists' estimations, a fifth epidemic wave this Fall is getting more and more likely. While Germany reports a record toll of new contaminations leading to the implementation of a vaccinal pass, in France, the situation's evolution calls for more vigilance.
And for good reason, according to the latest epidemiologic report from Santé Publique France, the country sees their domestic incidence rate jumps: as of November 15, 2021, over 100 cases for 100,000 inhabitants are reported. As of November 1st, the incidence rate was of 54 cases for 100,000 inhabitants. The toll almost doubled up in barely two weeks - a very worrying epidemic growth for authorities.
Although waves come in, they are not the same. Over one department in three now displays an incidence rate over 100 for 100,000 inhabitants including Ardèche, Bouches-du-Rhône, Gironde, Charente, Creuse, Lot-et-Garonne... More departments are about to turn with rates around 96-98%.
Now, the age groups the most involves are always younger. The incidence rate is higher inn people in their thirties, with 131 cases for 100,000 people, followed by quadragenarians (109) and 20-29 y.o. people (104). For these three age groups, it represents a growth over 50%.
"I would tend to think the epidemic will not slow down and the current growth is underestimated because there is still the inertia effect from the Fall break", epidemiologist Pascal Crepey warns in Le Parisien.
Some experts now claim for new restrictive measures to slow the spread of the epidemic. Although the French government says a new lockdown is not on the agenda, the option is not fully ruled out.
