With 19,778 new Covid-19 cases reported over the past 24 hours, the Covid-19 epidemic is resurging in France. This Tuesday November 16, Olivier Véran told Ouest-France the country was currently “at the beginning of a wave”.
Now, many people fear the health situation might deteriorate quickly, a few weeks before the Holidays. For the time being, the government relies on the return of the mask for all at school and the health pass determined by the booster shot for people over the age of 65. But will these measures be enough to limit contaminations and hospitalizations?
“Estimating how big the wave big is difficult”, French Health Minister Olivier Véran said this Tuesday November 16 to 20 Minutes. “Initial models show a risk of exceeding 1,000 hospitalizations per day by January”.
For the record, hospitalizations keep growing since the beginning of November. There are currently over 7,000 Covid-19 sick at the hospital in France.
The incidence rate is also very thoroughly monitored. As of November 15, it reached 100 cases for 100,000 inhabitants: a first since July, Gabriel Attal stated.

“Now the incidence rate is increasing as well in people over 50”, epidemiologist and INSERM head of research Dominique Costagliola said on BFMTV. “Seeing this incidence rate increase tells us the hospitalization toll will too”, she said.
“For now, hospitalizations stay limited thanks to French’s massive vaccination, 90% of people eligible being vaccinated. But the virus manages to slither and infects non-vaccinated people first”, Olivier Véran claimed this Tuesday in 20 Minutes.
But France is not the only EU countries to be worried about this new wave. In Germany, Munich has decided to cancel the traditional Christmas market because of the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic.
