Can you get reinfected with the Omicron variant several times? According to British scientists, the reinfection risk is much higher with the Omicron variant than it was with Delta. As half of Europeans will be contaminated by mid-March, it seems the Omicron wave is far from being over.

This new variant, first reported in South Africa, quickly spread worldwide, and Europe. Now, Omicron has replaced the Delta variant, tending to disappear. Although it is especially contagious, it is responsible for less severe disease, which quickly gave hope to epidemiologists.
Yet, it seems Omicron, spreading at lightning pace, can infect again someone who has been infected already. An infection with Delta gives 85% protection for six months, a data decreasing with Omicron: only 19%.
An issue for the end of the pandemic in the world? Not necessarily since according to the health authorities, the effectiveness of vaccine reaches about 70% with a booster. Although immunity given by the vaccine decreases ten weeks later, the less severe symptoms of Omicron led to less pressure on the hospital system than with the Delta variant. In France, the epidemic seems to have peaked as the contamination toll has started to finally decrease.
