Covid: France ready to stop testing vaccinated travelers at the borders

Restrictions to enter France from abroad grow slightly lighter; in a few days, the government is to stop requiring tests to enter the country from people vaccinated, we are told this February 8, 2022.

Since June 2021, traveling rules in the world are made easier: countries are divided in three colors - green, orange and red - depending on the level of the virus spread in the country. In France, travelers from a "country outside the EU area must show a less than 48-hour-old negative test. For vaccinated travelers from the UK, the PCR or antigen test completion date is 24 hours", the France diplomatie website reads.

Depending on where travelers come from, several control measures can be completed. Therefore, proof of vaccination is enough for EU residents, whilst inhabitants from an orange country can only enter if vaccinated or have an imperative reason to come to France, the Service public website reads.

The government shares the list of countries listed in green or orange (updated on February 4, 2022):

  • "Green" countries and territories: Country or territories where no active spread of the virus has been noticed and no variant of concern is reported. It involves EU countries, Saudi Arabia, Barhein, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Honduras, Hong-Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Koweit, New Zealand, Qatar, Rwanda, Senegal, Taiwan, Vanuatu.

  • "Orange" countries: Countries where the virus actively spreads but under control, without variants of concern. It involves all countries not listed in the "green" and "red" countries.

  • "Red" countries: Countries where the virus actively spreads along with variants of concern. To date, there is no "red" country reported.

Nevertheless, rules are about to change: in compliance to WHO's wishe, the conditions to enter France will be made lighter. The Minister of Foreign Affairs announced this Tuesday February 8, 2022, on BFMTV, that tests will be no longer needed to enter France.

"Within a week, the government will announce the end of tests to enter France for travelers vaccinated against Covid-19. [...] No matter the country they come from, people fully vaccinated will no longer have to show a negative test upon arrival in France. Imperative reasons will still apply to some countries, but tests not anymore", our peers said.
