The 2024 Heritage Days program at the Cinémathèque Française :

  • Escape game " Le Secret du Professeur Barbenfouillis " (The Secret of Professor Barbenfouillis)
    September 21 and 22

While the museum is still closed, several teams, hosted by an exuberant Selenite, compete to unlock Barbenfouillis' secret. Their mission: find Princess Azurine's moonstone ring, lost during the Moon Trip... Observation, deduction, clues... and speed! May the most perceptive team win!
For children aged 7 to 12.

  • The Méliès Museum
    September 21 and 22

A magician and inventor of special effects, Georges Méliès is the ideal guide to the history of cinema and special effects, from Metropolis to Hugo Cabret, from Moon Trip to Star Wars.
The Musée Méliès takes visitors on a fabulous journey of pleasure and wonder, through interactive devices, never-before-seen films, props, costumes and rare posters.

  • A little magic on the faces
    September 21 and 22

Students at ITM Paris (Institut Technique de Maquillage) put make-up on children inspired by the films of Méliès.

  • Discovery workshop: the magic of projection
    September 21 and 22

To accompany their discovery of the Musée Méliès, children can learn to draw on film and discover how to make a film without using a camera, thanks to the magic of projection!
For families, ages 6 and up.

  • Special effects in the Library's collections
    Saturday, September 21, 2:00 p.m.

Through a selection of photographs, posters, drawings, paper archives and vintage magazines, discover the secrets behind the special effects and techniques used to create cinema characters: imaginary creatures, historical figures, monsters, vampires, stars aged, rejuvenated, embellished, transvestites or metamorphosed, all born of the imagination and talent of make-up artists, prosthetists, costume designers, animators and animatronics technicians.

  • History of Magic
    September 21 and 22

The world of Méliès' films is imbued with magic and phantasmagoria, and his heirs have fully exploited the fantastic vein of his cinema. Hidden in the museum, our storytellers will conjure up an imaginary world of amazement, mischief, fantasy and illusion.
With storytellers Anne Boutin-Pied, Philippe Imbert, Ana Laura Nascimento, Alex Pattie and Mathilde Van Den Boom.

  • Journées du Matrimoine - Aloïse, Liliane de Kermadec
    Saturday, September 21, 3:00 pm

A contemporary of the Nouvelle Vague, Liliane de Kermadec (1928-2020) was close to the "Left Bank Group", whose leading figures included Alain Resnais, Agnès Varda, Chris Marker and Jacques Demy. Although Aloïse, released in 1975 and starring Isabelle Huppert and Delphine Seyrig, is undoubtedly the film that has generated the most interest, access to the films, archives and photographs in the Liliane de Kermadec collection, donated to the Cinémathèque française in 2021 by her daughter Anne de Kermadec, should enable new generations to discover all the facets of this multi-faceted artist.

Shall we go, friends?
