Every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) are an opportunity to discover many monuments and museums from a different angle, thanks to guided tours and events for all, free of charge! For the 41st edition of these European Heritage Days in Paris, thechurch of Saint-Sulpice opens its doors and its mysteries to you thanks to original tours, on September 21 and 22, 2024.
Located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, this church has been listed as a historic monument since 1915. Although construction began in 1646, it took almost two centuries to complete in 1870. It was here that Victor Hugo and his wife, Adèle Foucher, were married. It's the largest church in Paris and one of the most famous, emblematic of the Saint-Germain district.
Built on a small medieval sanctuary, the church's elegant classicalarchitecture is a sight to behold. It contains numerous works of art, including murals by Eugène Delacroix, a large Cavaillé-Coll organ and an astronomical gnomon.

Rediscover the Chapelle de la Vierge at Saint-Sulpice church!
Built in 1645, the Chapelle de la Vierge is the largest chapel in Saint-Sulpice church, and was decorated by the finest artists of its time, including François Lemoyne, who painted the vaulted ceiling from 1730 to 1732. This chapel, with its eventful history, was entirely restored between April 2023 and June 2024, an exceptional project that restored this Baroque jewel to its former glory.
Two exceptional tours will be led by the chief curator who oversaw this major operation.
