Art lovers, and Giacometti enthusiasts in particular, are invited to theInstitut Giacometti - Hôtel particulier Paul Follot, for the 41st edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024. A good excuse to get out and discover the world of an artist who still fascinates today.
The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) are the perfect opportunity to take advantage of a wide range of fascinating cultural events in the four corners of the Île-de-France region! If you're an art lover, the Institut Giacometti could well be the stop-off you're looking for.
It is a veritable reference point for the work of the sculptor, dedicated to exhibitions of his work, as well as to artistic research and teaching. The establishment is located in the 14th arrondissement, in the Montparnasse district, where Giacometti lived and worked throughout his prolific career! You can even take a look at the artist's studio, reconstructed within the institute.
Let's take a look at it for the Heritage Days, folks!
Discover the Institut Giacometti, its architecture and the exhibition "Ne pas parler de sculptures peintes" for a weekend with friends or family.
The Institut Giacometti is housed in a listed mansion in Montparnasse, the district where Giacometti lived and worked throughout his career. This exceptional site reflects the image of the Institut, a unique cultural establishment in Paris, both a tool for research and a museum on a human scale, allowing close proximity to the works of art. More than just an exhibition space, the Institut is a center for study and discovery.
The Institut Giacometti is housed in the former studio of artist-decorator Paul Follot, a listed Art Nouveau and Art Deco mansion. Join a mediator on a tour of this unique building and its decor, protected by the Monuments Historiques and preserved in its original layout.
"Don't talk about painted sculptures", Alberto Giacometti explained to his gallery owner, Pierre Matisse, in 1950, "color is part of sculpture, [les] are painted in oil like paintings." Giacometti's desire to make "living" figures led him to use his palette and brushes to "animate" his sculptures, large and small.
Join us for a guided tour of the tribute exhibition "Ne pas parler de sculptures peintes" (Don't talk about painted sculptures), which for the first time presents the bulk of the artist's painted plaster collection, bringing together such emblematic works as Stèle, Femmes de Venise and Figurine dans une cage, and revealing to the public a moving and secret part of the artist's work.
Throughout the year, Institut Giacometti offers workshops for families and courses for adults. These workshops, led by artists, creators and mediators, aim to support individual development through the creative gesture, and to discover what inspired Giacometti in the exercise of his work.
Discover with your family the different artistic approaches that will be developed throughout the year.
