How about a bit of archaeology forthe Journées du Patrimoine? Head for Archéa, musée d'Archéologie en Pays de France, located in Louvres in the Val-d'Oise, to discover a special program on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024. Opened in September 2010, Archéa is a little more than a museum: it's a regional project developed back in the 80s, with the aim of conserving, studying and promoting the archaeological heritage of Pays de France, the name of the natural region north of Paris, nearRoissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport.
A museum that welcomes you in a contemporary building, and invites you to discover its temporary and permanent collections based on the region's archaeological remains, from prehistory to the 18th century. Videos, models, tactile tours and other archaeological remains and objects are on display to help you better understand the rich history of this geographical area, and shed light on the history of France.
The museum takes over from the Tour Saint-Rieul, then the town's archaeological museum. The latter housed objects and remains unearthed during excavations carried out between 1976 and 1987 by the Groupe de recherches historiques et archéologiques de Louvres-en-Parisis (GRHALP). These excavations, which took place in Louvres town center, brought to light bronze basins, glassware, gold fibulae and bracelets, all bearing witness to the presence of a large Merovingian necropolis between 500 and 515 AD.
And if you'd like to learn more about the region's archaeology during the Journées du Patrimoine, you can also go here (program being updated):

Contemporary art and archaeology are two disciplines that seem far apart at first glance. Yet artists find in this human science, and the remains it unearths, many themes to explore and question. In this exhibition, the Musée Intercommunal team has created bridges between the museum's collections and the work of 16 contemporary artists - or artist duos: paintings, sculptures, installations and photographs. By bringing together the traces of the past and the art of the living, this contemporary re-reading offers a new perspective on the collections.
Tours to (re)discover the history of the Pays de France through nearly 800 archaeological objects. Guided tours open to the whole family, accompanied by an ARCHÉA mediator. Booklets and games are available for children.
But what's going on at the Tour Saint-Rieul? While the museum team is in the middle of setting up an exhibition, unexplained phenomena are getting in the way. Taking place in the Tour Saint-Rieul, the site of the discovery of prestigious Merovingian tombs, players are invited to discover the space and unravel its secrets, as well as learn more about the museum, its history and its collections.
Working in teams, in a closed space and within a limited time, participants must solve a riddle. To do this, they search, manipulate, think and, above all, cooperate!
Following in the footsteps of artist Jean-Paul Ganem, who sculpts landscapes visible from the sky, and featured in the ARTchéologie, des vestiges et des oeuvres exhibition, children aged 6 and over can imagine their own archaeological landscape of the future, using chalk and watercolors.
Presentation of the tapestry created by artists Marion Chombart de Lauwe and Pauline Angotti with the residents of Gonesse, Goussainville and Louvres as part of Roissy Pays de France's artistic residencies.
The project, conceived by multidisciplinary artists Pauline Angotti and Marion Chombart de Lauwe, explored the architectural, historical and cultural heritage of the towns of Gonesse, Goussainville and Louvres, while delving into the intimacy and personal heritage of the residents.
The aim of the residency was to bring to life a large-scale textile fresco. This collective work of drawing and embroidery skilfully blends text and image to create a contemporary epic. It's a story of the residents told by the residents, a shared history that's both imaginary and imbued with their lives and intimate ties with their neighborhood.
A historic monument, an archaeological site and a place steeped in 1500 years of history to tell during this exceptional tour of a building opened especially for the occasion.
