TheEcole normale supérieure is one of France's most selective and prestigious higher education establishments. There are four écoles normales supérieures in France: one in Paris, one in Paris-Saclay, one in Lyon and one in Rennes. These public universities specialize in the humanities and sciences.
TheEcole normale supérieure (or Normale Sup', as it is often called) was founded during the French Revolution, but its current, modern form didn't emerge until 1826.
The Paris campus, located in the Latin Quarter, opens its doors to us by reservation on September 21 and 22, 2024, to mark the new edition of the Journées du Patrimoine.
This annual cultural event allows the general public to discover and visit numerous historical and artistic sites: it's an original and enjoyable way to get to know the country, its institutions and its curiosities. Churches, ministries, schools, museums, castles, department stores, workshops, monuments: the richness of France's regions is revealed in every stone!
During this special weekend, we're taking advantage of the many open days in Paris to visit the Ecole normale supérieure. Here's the program for this cultural event.
Louis Pasteur is a major figure in the history of science and the history of France. His discoveries and work are associated with many places: Dole and Arbois, for his origins, Lille for his work on fermentation, Alès for silkworms. Two Parisian sites in particular illustrate his legend: the École normale supérieure and the Institut Pasteur, where it all began and where the great man's triumph was completed.
Opened together for the first time as part of the 2024 European Heritage Days, the Rue d'Ulm and 15th arrondissement institutions invite you to take a combined tour in the footsteps of the great scientist.
At Rue d'Ulm, you can discover the site of the first rabies vaccinations and the Ecole's historic library, where he was both a student and an administrator.
At the Institut Pasteur, you'll discover the site that became the Institut Pasteur following its creation in 1887.
Follow in the footsteps of Pasteur, Perrin, Vidal de la Blache and the Curies, and discover the history of the schools and research laboratories that have replaced gardens and orchards over the last century.
Visit Pasteur's office with its fresco by Louis-Édouard Fournier, "La Science et l'Humanité" at the École normale supérieure. End:11 rue P. et M. Curie.
