The Richelieu site of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France opens its historic doors to you for the Journées du Patrimoine, on September 21 and 22, 2024.

For the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, we're taking to the streets of the capital to discover ancient monuments and free exhibitions, but also to conquer places that are usually inaccessible to the public and little-known spots.

If you're a keen reader or a lover of fine architecture, here's a not-to-be-missed opportunity to discover our cultural heritage from a whole new angle! On the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024, the Richelieu of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France will be unveiling its program and treasures for the 41st edition of the Journées du Patrimoine.

The Richelieu site reopened to the public after twelve years of renovation work in 2022, during the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days). This historic site is sure to delight young and old alike, thanks to the sublime rooms of its library and museum. In all, 300 years of history and knowledge are on display. The Salle Ovale, the Galerie Mazarin, the Jardin Vivienne and all the other treasures of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France are just waiting to be revived!

    The BnF opens the doors of its historic site in the heart of Paris's 2nd arrondissement, free of charge. This is an opportunity to admire its new museum, revealing extraordinary works of art and heritage, and to explore listed architectural spaces, including the Salle Ovale, a majestic public reading room.
    The visit also includes a chance to discover some of the finest reading rooms in the BnF's specialist departments, the Salle Labrouste, the library of the Institut national d'histoire de l'art, and the library of the École nationale des chartes, all of which illustrate this center of excellence dedicated to the history of the arts and heritage sciences.
    The European Heritage Days open the BnF-Richelieu's 2024-2025 cultural season, dedicated to intercultural, artistic, diplomatic and intellectual exchanges between Europe and other civilizations since Antiquity. The first guest artist, Barthélémy Toguo, allows visitors to discover the exceptional dialogue that can take place between his contemporary works, presented throughout the visit, and the treasures of the BnF collections.
