The Journées du Patrimoine 2024 offer an exceptional immersion in the history and culture of the Île-de-France region. During this exceptional weekend, the doors of many architectural and artistic treasures open to the public, from majestic châteaux and renowned museums to lesser-known sites steeped in history. On September 21 and 22, anyone who's curious can explore the heritage close to home, as there are nuggets to be discovered in every département!
In the Yvelines region, let's take a stroll through Montigny-le-Bretonneux, a charming town that will appeal to everyone, whether you're a sports fan or a lover of historical archives. While the community of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is a true economic and cultural hub, it's also home to the Golf and Vélodrome National, two prestigious state-of-the-art facilities that draw crowds for sporting events.
Easily accessible by public transport, the town is a showcase for Yvelines culture, with a history museum, the headquarters of the departmental archives, relocated in 2005, a theater, a UGC multiplex, and two theaters, which regularly host performances. The Saint-Cyr fort, once used to protect the capital, now serves as the Ministry of Culture's photographic archive.

20 years serving history and heritage in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines
The Archives départementales building opened its doors to the public on January 17, 2004. Envisaged as a "one-stop shop for heritage", in addition to the Archives, it also houses Seine et Yvelines Archéologie and the Pôle Sauvegarde et Transmission des Patrimoines. This exhibition, celebrating the building's 20th anniversary, looks at the debates that went into designing the architecture for a building that is open to the public, but whose vocation is also to preserve collections, and which took the gamble of being located in a new town, far from the cultural hub of Versailles.
It is also an invitation to discover the activities of the many professionals who work to identify, collect, preserve and organize the collections that are so precious to the memory of the Yvelines region.
