Journées du Patrimoine 2024: events at the Finnish Embassy in Paris

The Journées du Patrimoine return to Paris and the Île-de-France region on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024. It's an opportunity to push open the doors of museums, monuments and unusual, little-known places like the Finnish Embassy, nestled in the capital's 7th arrondissement.

A much-appreciated cultural event in France, the Journées du Patrimoine return on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024 with a new, 41st edition, focusing on the themes of " Maritime Heritage " and " Heritage of Routes, Networks and Connections ".

As every year, the Journées du Patrimoine are an opportunity to push open the doors of numerous museums and monuments,institutions, unusual or hidden places, free of charge, or to discover little-known anecdotes about parks and gardens on guided walks.

Of course, some places, such as ministries, are overrun by the curious. But other places are also worth a visit, such as embassies, the diplomatic representations of foreign countries. On Saturday, September 21, 2024, discover theEmbassy of Finland on a free tour.

Located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, a stone's throw from the esplanade des Invalides, the Embassy of Finland boasts architecture designed by Finnish architect Veli Paatela, and interior design by Antti Nurmesniemi and Yrjö Randell. What makes this embassy so special? The lamps suspended above the staircase, designed by Alvar Aalto and presented at the 1937 Paris Universal Exhibition. The Finnish Embassy also features several works of contemporary art by Finnish artists. Come and discover them during the Journées du Patrimoine, 2024 edition!

  • Flying Finns sports exhibition at the Finnish Embassy

    Welcome to the Place de Finlande!
    In this Olympic year, we present a sports exhibition entitled Flying Finns.
    In 1924, Paavo Nurmi, Ville Ritola and other Finnish athletes achieved the greatest Olympic success of all time in Paris. One hundred years later, the Olympic Games return to France. Today, Finland is a modern welfare state in which sport and physical exercise play a key role.
    The TAHTO sports culture center and the embassy have put together an exhibition on Finland through the eyes of sports culture, not forgetting athletic history. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the replica of the torch from the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games. The exhibition also illustrates the evolution of running shoes up to the present day.

    Come and discover the premises of theEmbassy of Finland, with its interior architecture and design that perfectly reflect Finnish culture, uncluttered and close to nature. Learn about Finnish happiness and lifestyle with the Permanent Delegation of Finland to the OECD, Institut Finlandais, Business Finland, Visit Finland and Maison Louis Carré with Les Amis de la Maison Carré.
    We also present a sports exhibition Flying Finns - the flying Finns to celebrate the Olympic year.
    On-site registration upon arrival at the embassy, ID card will be requested at the entrance. Unfortunately, this event does not include accessibility facilities.
