The Musée de Préhistoire d'Île-de-France, located in Nemours in the Seine-et-Marne region, houses over two million objects dating back to prehistoric times. There are 2,500 objects on display, covering periods from the Early Palaeolithic to the Second IronAge! The 2024 Heritage Days are a unique opportunity to (re)discover this natural heritage.
Most of the collection comes from archaeological discoveries made by local archaeologists since the 19th century. The first archaeological discoveries in Île-de-France were made by Edmond Doigneau in the Beauregards massif (Nemours). It was not until the inter-war years that Abbé André Nouel, Raoul Daniel and Édouard Soudan found numerous signs of life in these massifs.
It was therefore decided to build a museum in the geological setting of Nemours, in the Stampian sandstone massifs that have been home to peoples since prehistoric times. The several-hectare site, planted with coniferous and oak trees, is typical of a late Palaeolithic ecosystem.
On this special weekend, September 21 and 22, 2024, young and old alike can take advantage of the open house to admire these exceptional collections and have fun with the special animations.
Pauline and Robin from the Inspiration sauvage association will take you back to prehistoric times in a reconstructed camp, with demonstrations of hide and leather working, flint knapping, basketry and pottery.
The thruster is a weapon that has been used for thousands of years for hunting, fishing and warfare.
This weapon consists of a rod fitted with a support on or in which a projectile is inserted: the assegai. It's a testament to human ingenuity and the ability to adapt to a wide variety of sometimes extreme environments.
The exhibition takes you from the world of prehistoric hunters in Europe, where the spear-thrower first appeared some 24,000 years ago, to the deserts inhabited by the Aborigines of Australia, via New Guinea and the icy expanses of the Arctic, not forgetting the forests of Amazonia and the plains of North America.
Ethnographic objects from all over the world are presented, as well as casts of prehistoric masterpieces.
A program to whet your appetite!
