The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) take place on the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024 in Paris and the Île-de-France region. It's the perfect opportunity to stop off in the sublime town of Fontainebleau, in Seine-et-Marne, where a great program of visits and events awaits you!

Every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) take place all over Europe, to the delight of enthusiasts and the curious. This cultural event offers the public the chance to rediscover our heritage from a different angle, through a fine program of visits, often free of charge, and original events. Museums, monuments, castles, institutions and even places that are usually inaccessible to the public, including ministries, are among the many heritage treasures that lend themselves to the game and reveal their secrets for the occasion. And, as you'd expect, Paris and the surrounding region are also taking part!

This time, the date is set for the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024. These dates mark the 41st edition of the Journées du Patrimoine. Why not take advantage of this opportunity to discover the most beautiful towns in the Île-de-France region? In the Seine-et-Marne region, Fontainebleau is one of the perfect places for a lovely Ile-de-France getaway! With its verdant landscapes, sublime château and other treasures, this town steeped in history is well worth the detour. And just as well, Fontainebleau is taking part in the Journées du Patrimoine!

Heritage Days 2024 at the Maison Forestère de la Garenne Gros Bois

  • Visit an old forest house and its large kennel
    Sunday, September 22, 10:00 a.m.

    Our association will present the buildings to visitors, explain how our 100 large hounds are bred, introduce them to the Trompe de chasse (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and answer questions about the history and practice of venison in Fontainebleau from the kings to the present day.

    The MGallery Fontainebleau l'Aigle Noir hotel invites you to step through its majestic gates to experience an exceptional moment of sharing during the European Heritage Days.
    After the success of the first edition in 2023, the team at the MGallery Fontainebleau hotel will welcome you again in 2024 in its magnificent, revisited Second Empire-style lobby. An incredible guide-lecturer (independent partner) will then show you around the hotel, sharing anecdotes about our building built in 1500, in connection with the town of Fontainebleau and its château, our long-time neighbor.
    This experience will continue in the "A l'Epicerie" Bar (subject to availability) for a mixology demonstration and a tasting of our signature cocktail "l'Aigle Noir".
    Finally, we'll all head to the Salle du Jeu de Paume to meet our loyal partner, the Maître Paumier. You'll have the opportunity to discover an ancient and fun activity. Don't forget to wear comfortable sneakers.
    All that's left for you to do is choose one of the following times to arrange your visit: from 1pm to 2pm or from 6pm to 7pm. Please note: registration is required and places are limited.

Heritage Days 2024 at the Médiathèque de Fontainebleau

  • Tours of the heritage reserve
    September 21 and 22

    Take part in a behind-the-scenes tour of the Médiathèque de Fontainebleau's ancient collection, home to over 35,000 documents dating from the 15th to the 19th century.

    Librarians will take you on one of 4 guided tours of the heritage reserve. A selection of exceptional documents will be presented, as well as the main tasks of their profession, which specializes in written heritage.

    The Médiathèque celebrates local heritage and history during a week-long event that opens on the occasion of the JEP 2024, from Saturday September 21 to Saturday September 28, 2024.
    The events organized will highlight the wealth of Bellifontaine's heritage in all its forms: natural, historical and architectural. Varied themes include the forest, the castle, art history and the town, all linked to the Médiathèque's heritage collections and recent restorations, such as the Dubois royal archives and prints from the Grand Siècle.

    To mark the release of his latest book, Patrick Daguenet looks back at the many stays of Louis XIV and his Court at Fontainebleau, a place of vacation and entertainment, combining hunting, theater and music, walks on the Grand Canal, concerts and balls, not forgetting the great wedding parties!

Heritage Days 2024 at the Musée des Sapeurs Pompiers

  • Visit and demonstration
    September 21 and 22

    A place of historical and contemporary discovery about the fire department, with a museum in the basement featuring objects and vehicles from 1789 to the present day (not accessible to wheelchair users) and on the first floor (accessible to all).
    Demonstrations will be presented, such as the extraction of a person from a vehicle following a road accident, fire on a gas bottle or deep-fat fryer, and the immersive simulation of progressing through a smoky space using a breathing apparatus.
    Access is free, and you can eat on site if you wish.
