An announcement that came as a bombshell! Amid the coronavirus epidemic, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced in a televised address on Monday March 16th, 2020 to close all borders with neighboring countries. A meaningful decision showing how serious the situation is while the virus is now spreading all over the country.
Borders closed include the European Union and the Schengen area and this for 30 days. But may families and people currently abroad be rest assured: they will be repatriated and allowed to go back to France to join their families. We remind you that Air France has announced to dramatically decrease the number of flights for two months, which could make things less easy.
Note that French Secretary of the Interior Christophe Castaner also brought some clarifications as for the modalities of the cross-border trips saying that trips were limited to those obligatory with systematic checkpoints and that freight transportation involving supply of health and food products were allowed – among others.
New and harsher measures French people will have to conform to in order to curb the propagation of the virus, also banning all trips abroad for Easter break. As for repayment modalities, no details have been shared so far, but you’re highly advised to get in touch with tour operators, hotels and airlines.
