Health system reform: Macron acknowledges an error

Visiting the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, President Emmanuel Macron has acknowledged the government “undoubtedly made an error in the strategy announced” as for the health system reform

On Friday May 15, amid the health crisis, President Emmanuel Macron said mea culpa. As France is facing the coronavirus epidemic, the French president visited the medical staff at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, accompanied by Health Minister Olivier Véran.

On the occasion, he addressed in front of the hospital’s doctors and in front of the lack of means and the state public hospitals are, Emmanuel Macron acknowledged an error on the health system reform announced in 2018. “We undoubtedly made a mistake in the strategy announced” he said, “it wasn’t meaningful enough”.

I was convinced we’re changing things, and this is very cruel to me” he said, as reported by the AFP. Today, the President wishes to end this medical staff depletion. Emmanuel Macron confirmed an hospital investment scheme was to come. “This is an investment, not an expense” he said, considering it should be implemented very soon. Health Minister Olivier Véran has been entrusted with the task. So far, no number has been unveiled.
