In a long interview with BFM TV that aired this Monday May 18, French President Emmanuel Macron returned on the State’s responsibility about the supply of masks in France. He says France has “never been out of mask” slightly admitting “there were masks”.

A President should not say so? This Monday May 18 evening, BFM-TV has aired a long documentary called “Au coeur de l'Elysée, face à la crise” taking us backstage, in the middle of the coronavirus crisis. To the question about how the State has managed stocks and supply of masks, President Emmanuel Macron says the country has “never been out of masks” and “things have been said and managed”. While the production of masks has increased to reach the goal set by the government, the opposition is staggered by a “denial” of the reality.

By the way, the leader has admitted that there were “lacks and tensions” before adding this is precisely “what we will look at to correct and anticipate”. Before that, to explain the strategy and the government’s past actions, President Macron said there was a “restrictive doctrine not to ever be out of stock” confirming the executive’s decision “was the right one”.

Tweet reads: “Denial. / Emmanuel Macron: “We’ve never been out of masks”.”

Of course, these statements sparked reactions from the representatives of the opposition of all sides. First, the Communist Party denounced a “denial” from President Macron, quickly jointed by Les Républicains MP Eric Ciotti and Front National president Marine Le Pen. They said these statements were an “unbearable provocation given the situation”, accusing the Head of State of “offhand psychiatrization”.
