The draft law on Global Security gets itself talked about. Even though Paris is soon to be fitted with municipal police, the law focuses on the tensions because of article 24 for the draft law on Global Security aiming at banning disseminating images of law enforcement officials.
UNO has even shared “serious worries” as for the topic of this controversial text; the institution fears “passing and implementing this draft law could lead to major harm to the Human Rights and fundamental liberties”.
Article 24 for this draft law provides for penalties for broadcasting videos in which police officers or gendarmes are identifiable – excluding their ID number, the “RIO” mandatorily visible for everyone – “with the aim of causing physical or psychological harm”. Contraveners risk a year’s imprisonment and a €45,000 fine.
A demonstration in front of the National Assembly against the draft law on Global Security has been announced this Tuesday to condemn this article. Demonstrators are worried for the freedom of press and about misbehaviors that could occur in the law enforcement official ranks in the future.
