“True to the medieval plan”, the decision is not surprising but is made in compliance with the calendar. After hearing architects and three likely proposals as promised, the Commission nationale du patrimoine et de l’architecture or National Commission on Heritage and Architecture (CNPA) has approved this Thursday March 25 the project for reconstructing the framework faithfully.
The new framework of the Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral will be made according to a “drawing close to the disappeared framework, showing the formal qualities of the medieval framework and its historical depth, telling about the emergence of the art from the drawing of the framework, listed as World Heritage Site”. No more back consolidations related to lack of maintenance. Everything will be made of oak, a material already approved in the specification note of Army General Jean-Louis Georgelin, head of the public institution entrusted with the preservation and renovation of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral.
Following this decision, Georgelin stated: “I am happy the decision of the National Commission on Heritage and Architecture sticks to the approach we advocate for, which was unanimously shared by members of the public institution’s Scientific Committee members. It is perfectly coherent with decisions made in July 2020 for the renovation of the cathedral”.
The Cathedral is to be renovated prior to the Olympics 2024. Although the gigantic Notre-Dame de Paris renovations are delayed, two chapels have yet already been renovated.
