The Centre Pompidou is one of the capital's top spots. In the heart of the Beaubourg district, this giant with tangled colored pipes has been attracting art lovers since 1977. Today, it represents the first collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe, and regularly surprises Parisians of a day and of all times with exhibitions with surprising angles and hot retrospectives .
However, for a few years, Parisians will be deprived of this emblematic museum and its rich collections. At the beginning of 2021, we learned that the famous museum would close its doors for three years of work. Then Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot had announced this project to our colleagues of the Figaro.
Initially, it was announced that the Centre Pompidou would be closed in late 2023, to open in early 2027. Then, on Thursday, October 21, 2021, the new president of the museum Laurent Le Bon had decided that the work of the center of contemporary art would begin later than planned. The Centre Pompidou was then to close its doors only from thefall of 2024, after the Paris Olympics, so that visitors from around the world attracted by this sporting event can also enjoy the cultural highlights of the capital.
Finally, the Pompidou Center should close its doors by the end of 2025 according to an announcement of the Minister of Culture Rima Abdul Malak relayed by the AFP. Finally, the Parisians will be able to find this famous museum in 2030 according to this new agenda.
During these few years, the Centre Pompidou will be entirely closed. Why this choice? Because this way, the project estimated at 200 million euros would be both less expensive and less time consuming. If the work had been carried out with the museum partially open, the total cost of the operation would have been 226 million euros. This renovation will allow on the one hand to modernize this cultural colossus and on the other hand to carry out a complete asbestos removal of the building. We should then discover a new hanging aiming at offering us a "multidisciplinary perspective" as well as new spaces for young people. The library should also be expanded.
So take advantage of the limited time we have left to admire the exhibitions presented at the Centre Pompidou and to survey again and again this temple ofcontemporary art in Paris.
