Despite the coronavirus epidemic, it is out of question to lose sight of 2024 Paris Olympics. The French capital stays on course and by the Porte de la Chapelle, a new Arena is being built. On March 10, 2020, works have been launched marking the beginning of one of the most iconic constructions for the future sporting event.
On Wednesday May 27, 2020, Paris city hall announced the project has been entrusted to Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France and the SCAU and NP2F architecture offices. The trio chosen this Monday May 25, 2020 by the Paris’ committee for calls for offers has been entrusted with the conception, the construction and the technical exploitation of this pharaonic project said to be done by 2023.
So, what does the future Arena Porte de La Chapelle have in store? This sport facility that can fit 8,000 seats will welcome three sports for 2024 Olympics and Paralympics: Badminton, para taekwondo, para badminton. We are also expecting to enjoy sporting competitions such as Paris Basketball in residency, as well as concerts, shows and consortiums.
In addition to high-level sporting events, this Arena 2 is also said to aim at blending in the area’s local life. It will open to proximity sports with two gyms dedicated to the premises needs, as well as an additional program covering 2,600sqm enabling to provide to the neighborhood a new leisure and store offer.
Created as a place of life, Arena Porte de Chapelle will be recognizable with an architecture both modern and green, said to symbolize the ecologic transition wished in Paris. A glassed base open onto the neighborhood, a plant-lined terrace at 11.50-m providing panoramic views on Paris, 3000sqm of outdoor spaces to relax, and 6,000Sqm of plant-filed roof, and 1,700sqm of plant-lined terraces.
By the way, the Arena Porte de la Chapelle project has been created in order to limit the carbon footprint of the building. So, 30% of concrete used for the construction comes from low carbon industries, and the use of bio-based materials has been given pride of place especially for the frameworks made at 100% of wood for the two gyms. Moreover, recycled cotton has been used to isolate the main room. The building is said to reach level 2 of the bio-based materials labeling.
