After a final weekend of events, the Musée de la Vie Romantique has closed its doors. Rest assured, it's not for ever, but you'll have to wait over a year before you can return to this key venue on the Parisian art scene.
The Musée de la Vie Romantique has been closed since Monday September 16, 2024 . The reopening is scheduled for March 2026. The cultural center is undertaking major renovation work to refurbish the entire building, and create a new visitor trail through the permanent collections.
The museum, which belongs to the city of Paris, details its project on the Fondation du Patrimoine website. An appeal for donations has been launched to finance the work. According to the Paris 9th arrondissement town hall website, the project is expected to cost 3.8 million euros. The online fundraising campaign aims to raise 100,000 euros.
The Musée de la Vie Romantique plans to refurbish the facades of George Sand's former home, repair the roofs and restore the glass and woodwork. Inside, the layout will be reinvented, and the tour itinerary will be revised to better highlight the artists who passed through the house, the Romantic movement and the blending of the arts fostered by this movement.
The institution has been classified as a historic monument since 1956, so the renovation work will preserve the essence and treasures of the house, while giving it a new lease of life.
It is hoped that this work will progress on schedule, enabling us to return to the museum in the spring of 2026.
