When artists embark on a scientific schooner for a voyage of discovery of the oceans and their ecosystems, the result is a special exhibition where contemporary art meets science.
Organized at Le Centquatre-Paris, in partnership with the TARA Ocean Foundation, the exhibition La Grande expédition (The Great Expedition ) can be admired from November 16, 2024 to March 2, 2025, at the art center in the 19th arrondissement.
The exhibition brings together the work of 40 contemporary artists from different generations and backgrounds. Photography, drawing and illustration, video, painting, sculpture, sound installation... Each in his or her own way, these artists recount this unique experience, and describe this oceanographic world full of mystery.
The artists wanted to immortalize the ocean, its varied seascapes, the flora and fauna that populate these waters, the exceptional biodiversity that is revealed through scientific research... But also the fragility of these aquatic worlds, the pollution that is changing these ecosystems, and the role of the ocean in the functioning of the planet. This voyage on the schooner Tara awakened the artists' awareness of the reality of climate change, and of the treasures at risk in these exploited oceans.
To complete the exhibition itinerary, you'll find various scientific works and information explaining what the artists were able to see and represent. Science and art thus develop a fascinating and educational dialogue for the general public. You can also admire travel diaries recounting the highlights of this marine expedition.
Join us on a voyage to the oceans, with the exhibition La Grande expédition, presented at Centquatre-Paris.
