Love it or loathe it, this gigantic building with its distinctive architecture and maze of colorful, tangled pipes rarely arouses indifference. Like its treasures - Europe's leading collection of modern and contemporary art- the center Pompidou makes passers-by and visitors alike react and interact. However, in 2025, this cultural landmark in Paris will close its doors for major renovation work. But what will become of the works in this museum whose exhibitions attract the curious and lovers of contemporary art?
A new venue in the Île-de-France region takes over! The Centre Pompidou Francilien - Fabrique de l'Art / Musée national Picasso Paris is due to open in the summer of 2026 in the town of Massy, in the Essonne département (91). Spanning 30,000m2, the architecture of this new cultural spot, designed by PCA-STREAM, will echo the Centre Pompidou site : "The exhibition spaces open to the public feature a wooden walkway, allowing visitors to contemplate the park in the same way as they admire the Beaubourg district from the Centre's galleries. On the second floor, a belvedere overlooking the canopy hosts public events; its wooden staircase evokes Pompidou's emblematic "caterpillar" on the façade. The proportions of the building contribute to these subtle assonances with the historic building, particularly when it splits in two and is reflected in the lake", describes the architectural firm.
This pharaonic-scale new facility will house workshops and storerooms for two cultural institutions, the Centre Pompidou and the Musée national Picasso Paris. A surface area of 3,300 m² will be dedicated to welcoming the general public with cultural and exhibition spaces, including a bookshop café. Erected on the parc de la Blanchette, it is set to become an exciting new living space in the city of Massy!
