The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Palais Royal… There are so many venues which Paris is famous for. But the city is also renown for the many colonies of rats in railway stations, by the Seine, in the streets and buildings. As it turns out Paris ranks fourth in the ranking of the cities the most infested with rats in the world, behind Deshnoke, India, London and New-York, as shared in French TV show “Touche pas à mon poste”…
The proliferation of rats hits the biggest cities in the world, whether they are developed or not, or simply because garbage is easier to access in the urban environment. In the French capital city, there are even more rats than there are inhabitants… Specialists consider about 6 million rats live underneath Paris, namely 1.75 rats per inhabitant, since there are 2,175 million Parisians within Paris.
In France, Marseille ranks close to Paris, 10th, with 1.5 million rats. With the United States, France is the only country to have two cities ranked in this disgusting list. A 4th rank for Paris the whole world checked live this past Saturday during the finale of the Champions’ League. In the middle of his live, a Spanish journalist was interrupted by a rat, in front of the Notre-Dame Cathedral… Some very bad press for the French capital city.
