Major renovations on the Place de la Concorde prior to the 2024 Olympics

For a beautiful and clean Place de la Concorde, Paris will start a series of renovations prior to the 2024 Olympics. Statues, fountains and street lamps need to get cleaned up.

Since the Concorde Obelisk found its former glory back, the city of Paris renovates the rest of the square by the 2024 Summer Olympics. Deputy mayor entrusted with heritage Karen Taïeb announced the launch of a series of renovations, especially for the fountains, statues and street lamps, in pitiful condition for many years because of pollution.

On the menu, the renovation of two brattices symbolizing Lille and Strasbourg among the eight existing on the North-West side of the square. They will be particularly visible during the challenges of BMX freestyle, 3x3 basketball, skateboard and breaking during the Summer Olympics. A €600,000 envelop has been given for the renovations likely to start from the summer 2023, and expected to be done for spring 2024.

As for fountains, the Fontaine des Fleuves and the Fontaine des Mers – both about two-century-old – will enjoy renovation and watertightness works, for a budget between €700,000 and €900,000. This time, works are to start in the spring 2023. Works will continue past the Games, only the most urgent places will be done in time. Weeding is going out already and street lamps are being fixed. Then, it will be necessary to work on cutting down calcite deposit and water consumption.
