2015 was a particularly sordid year in France, with several attacks committed throughout the year. On January 7, the Kouachi brothers murdered twelve people at the offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. The following day, Amedy Coulibaly killed a policewoman, and the day after that, four people were murdered in the Hypercacher supermarket.
Nine years on, the wound is still raw, and a tribute is planned, as every year, by the City of Paris and the French government. This Sunday, January 7, Anne Hidalgo and several of the city's elected representatives will visit the 11th arrondissement to pay tribute to the victims. If you need to get to this area, plan to arrive early, as access will be very difficult for a few hours.
This year's ceremony is scheduled to start at 4pm, at 10 rue Nicolas Appert, in front of the former Charlie Hebdo offices, for the reading of the commemorative plaque, the laying of wreaths, a minute's silence, a Marseillaise and greetings to the families. Another ceremony is scheduled for 4:15pm, in tribute to police lieutenant Ahmed Merabet, onboulevard Richard Lenoir. A final ceremony will be held at 5:00 pm at 23 avenue de la Porte de Vincennes , in memory of the Hypercasher victims.
At the end of the ceremonies, the various sites will once again be open to the general public.
