Since 2016, the idea of a memorial garden in trobute to the victims of the November 13th 2015 Terror Attacks is being set up. In 2021, Anne Hidalgo unveiled the upcoming location of the garden, in front of the Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais Church in Paris 4th arrondissement, really close to the City Hall. Expected to be done by late 2021, this memorial is to be eventually done in 2025. Two victim associations, Life for Paris, and 13Onze15, and the Paris City Hall chose this June 9 the project that will pay tribute to the 130 victims.
This garden is to “gather, pay tribute and honor victims. […] Accessible to victims and their families, as well as Parisians”. This place is to house a olive tree of peace at the foot of which families of the victims and survivors can lay flowers and hang little notes. On the parvis of the church, an elm "of justice" exists since 1935 around which the garden evolves.
Supported by the Wagon Landscaping team, the project will represent the six locations of the terror attacks and allow "progress and collection" around the names of the victims on symbolical gravestones. Nature will be part of the tribute to victims of the terror attacks with a garden evolving at the same time as season. Stone elements will remind the "harshness of this challenge and lives broken" whilst the water and plants will accompany the development of biodiversity in the garden that will be a place of remembrance and life.
The choice of the project of the memorial garden happens a few days prior to the court verdict, on June 29, 2022. Terms from five years' emprisonment to irreducible life sentence have been required against the 20 accused, six years and a half after the events. The garden will be inaugurated for the tenth anniversary of the terror attacks, a beautiful symbol.
