The news has just been released: the young Guillaume Diop has been promoted to the title of star dancer this Saturday morning, March 11, 2023.

The nomination has just been made on this Saturday morning, March 11: the French dancer Guillaume Diop is now part of the highly prized (and immensely selective) group of star dancers of theParis Opera at only 23 years old. A consecration for the dancer, who received this title at the end of a performance of Giselle in Seoul this Saturday.

In 300 years of existence, theParis Opera had never nominated a black prima ball erina: at the age of 23, Guillaume Diop has just written a new page in the institution. Since he was 4 years old, Guillaume has been dancing for hours before joining the Opera at the age of 8. The dancer has already performed in various star roles, including the main male roles in Swan Lake, Don Quixote and La Bayadère.

This is not the first time that Guillaume Diop has changed the "rules" (in the good sense of the word): he has also become a star dancer without even passing through the rank of "premier danseur", as is normally the case at theParis Opera. If you want to see this classical dance prodigy in a performance, go and book your tickets for Le Chant du Compagnon, presented at theOpéra Bastille, from April 21 to May 28, where he dances some evenings.
