Good news for many animal rights activists. According toAFP, Le Parisien and Actu Paris, the mythical Moulin Rouge in Paris will put an end to its acts using snakes.
Every night, the Parisian cabaret, nestled in the 18th arrondissement, presents spectators with an act in which five pythons - protected species - are plunged into a transparent pool. The Paris City Hall reacted, asking the Moulin Rouge " to stop using wild animals " in its shows.
This week, during a new Paris Council, a vow was unanimously adopted in this sense. And the Moulin Rouge was quick to react. " Aware of societal developments on the welfare of animals, the Moulin Rouge will stop this number," said the Parisian cabaret following the letter sent by the City Council. This is reported by Agence France-Presse, which has a copy of the letter dated Friday.
However, no precise date concerning the end of this number has been communicated for the moment. But the Moulin Rouge evokes " a reasonable notice " for " the artists and providers involved", still according to AFP.
We recall that the Paris City Council has adopted a " charter for animal welfare ". Dating from July 2021, this text prohibits, among other things, the use of wild animals in shows produced in places that belong to it. Here, the case of the Moulin Rouge is quite particular, since it is a private establishment.
Nevertheless, the Moulin Rouge has decided to put an end to its act with snakes. This news was welcomed by several associations, including La Paz, Paris Animaux Zoopolis.
