Since January 2023, France is divided. Demonstrations and strike movements are multiplying in all cities of France to protest against the pension reform project. For its part, the government is sticking to its guns and trying to complete its project.
On Thursday 16 March, Elisabeth Borne activated the 49-3 article of the Constitution to pass the text of the law. An act that provoked the anger of the French, as well as that of the MPs. In response, elected officials have filed two motions of censure, which they will vote on this Monday, March 20 in the National Assembly.
While waiting to know the results of this vote, the struggle continues in the street. The students of theUniversity of Paris 1 have voted to occupy the Tolbiac site. The student unions are delighted with the commitment of the young people, and hope that their movement will be imitated in all the universities of France. " The 49.3 has awakened the youth.Anger is rising, we no longer want to follow the schedule of the inter-union and we invite all universities to join us," said Lorelia Fréjo, a language student, according to comments collected by AFP and shared by BFMTV.
By this occupation, the students want to express their refusal of this reform, and denounce the use of the 49-3 by the government. The student unions also want to show their support to the garbage collectors: a march is planned on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. This march will start from the incinerator of Ivry-sur-Seine, to join the station of Austerlitz, passing by Tolbiac .
