Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, freshly reopened after five years of renovation, is celebrating its first Christmas masses since the devastating fire of 2019.
For this first Christmas since its reopening, Notre-Dame offers a program rich in emotion. On Tuesday December 24, masses will be held at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm, followed by a musical vigil from 11pm with the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris, to plunge you into the mystery of the Holy Night. Midnight mass, the highlight of the vigil, will be celebrated at midnight by the Archbishop of Paris, Mgr Laurent Ulrich. The following day, Wednesday December 25, services will be held at 8:30am, 11am and 6pm, with vespers at 5:15pm.
Please note: access to Masses is unreserved and limited to the 2,700 places available. The diocese recommends arriving at least 30 minutes before the start of the celebrations, bearing in mind the long queues. This Christmas marks the return of traditions, but also requires a little patience.
In addition to the services, a magnificent Neapolitan nativity scene has been installed in the cathedral. Faithful to the craftsmanship of Naples, it offers a vivid, detailed representation of the Nativity, adding a warm, traditional touch to the festive atmosphere.
The reopening of Notre-Dame, which took place on December 7, 2024 after a titanic 700 million euro project, continues to arouse great interest. An opportunity to discover or rediscover this mythical edifice, magnified by its restored vaults and resplendent stained-glass windows.
For those unable to attend, the 11am mass on December 25th will be broadcast live on France 2, allowing everyone to experience this unique spiritual moment from the comfort of their own homes.
Don't miss this momentous occasion, a symbol of rebirth for Notre-Dame and the faithful the world over.
