Calling all designers with talent to spare and creativity to wear! TheInstitut du Monde Arabe (IMA) is launching a brand new fashion competition that's sure to rock the catwalks. Called the Arab FashionAward-IMA, its aim is to shine a spotlight on fashion that is all too often relegated to the backstage, even though it abounds in know-how and creativity.
In recent years, Arab fashion has experienced a veritable effervescence. In addition to Fashion Weeks in Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Lebanon and Morocco, more and more designers of Arab origin are also taking part in Paris Fashion Week, turning the heads of discerning fashionistas. TheIMA, with its emblematic Jean Nouvel building, contributes to the promotion of Arab culture in all its forms. With this award, it aims to become a reference point for Arab fashion and a privileged space of expression for young designers and talents from the diasporas.
Like the Grands Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris, the competition is divided into several specific categories. On the one hand, the "Emerging Talent" prize will honor a rising star whose style and creativity stand out. On the other, the "Innovative Talent" prize will reward designers who revolutionize fashion with novel materials, futuristic techniques or sustainable commitment.
Candidates must come from one of the countries of the Arab League, such as Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon or Morocco. They may also belong to the diasporas of these countries. The IMA emphasizes that projects incorporating eco-responsible and socially committed practices will be given particular consideration.
Applications are open until June 15, 2025 on the IMA website. In July, a selection committee will choose ten finalists in each category. In October, a jury of fashion personalities including Pascal Morand, Executive President of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, and renowned Lebanese couturier Rabih Kayrouz, will announce the winners during Paris Fashion Week, according to Fashion Network.
So, who will be the new talents to keep an eye on? Answer in October!
