The Eiffel Tower, one of Paris's most famous landmarks, was evacuated on Tuesday, December 24, following a short circuit detected on the power rail of an elevator. The incident, which occurred between the second floor and the top, triggered the fire alarm at 10:50 am. The Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE) reassures us that there is no danger to visitors, and that a partial reopening was possible after verification.

This morning , as tourists flocked to the Eiffel Tower to take in the breathtaking views, a technical incident disrupted their New Year's Eve celebrations. A short-circuit on one of the elevator's power supply rails activated the safety protocol in place, leading to the rapid evacuation of the monument. The operation was carried out calmly and efficiently, as SETE explained in its press release.

The Paris fire department, supported by the site's technical teams, quickly intervened to assess the situation and ensure that no risk remained.

"At 11:50 a.m., the fire, which had started in an electrical box connected to an elevator cable, was extinguished. A short-circuit is believed to have caused the fire. The fire did not spread. There were no injuries", say the fire department, who have been investigating the cause of the fire, reports Le Parisien. Only the elevator involved was put out of action, the other three remaining operational.

TheEiffel Tower reopened at 12.15pm, but only up to the second floor. Good news for the many visitors who came to celebrate the festive season in Paris, and who will once again be able to enjoy the magic of the Tower.

Such incidents are rare on the Iron Lady, but serve as a reminder of the technical demands involved in maintaining a monument built over 130 years ago. Every detail, from the elevators to the structure, is the object of particular attention to ensure the safety of all concerned.

In short, the emblematic monument is once again accessible. You can also take the opportunity to explore the illuminations on the Champs-Élysées or stroll along the banks of the Seine to continue celebrating the beauty of Paris at Christmas.
