This Friday, September 6, 2024, several aircraft will be flying over the capital, at around 5pm. Why will they be crossing the skies over Paris? We tell you all about it.

An exceptional flypast is scheduled for this Friday, September 6, 2024 in Paris! Don't worry if you see planes flying low and fast overhead at the end of the day.

This parade over the skies of the capital follows a solemn tribute organized to mark the air force general's farewell to arms ceremony. The Paris Prefecture of Police authorized the flypast, announced on Thursday September 5.

The four aircraft, operating a south-to-north route, will cross western Paris between 5.20pm and 5.40pm. Departing from the Porte de Vanves in the 14th arrondissement, the aircraft will take to the skiesover emblematic monuments such as the Invalides, the Grand Palais and theArc de Triomphe, before finally reaching the Porte Maillot. This crossing of the skies is set in a military context, and pays tribute to a high-ranking officer of the French Air Force, whose departure was marked by a ceremony in the courtyard of honor at Les Invalides on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

This spectacular, albeit short, flyover often raises questions among the uninformed. It is therefore important to emphasize that this is a tribute, not a military maneuver or an emergency event. The precise times, from 5.20pm to 5.40pm, and the locations overflown, from Porte de Vanves to Porte Maillot, should reassure you.

Parisians often have the opportunity to see aerial events take place in their skies, notably on the occasion of Bastille Day or other military commemorations, but this type of overflight, which accompanies an official farewell, remains less common. Les Invalides, the central monument of military memory in Paris, is often the site of important ceremonies, and this flyover is part of that tradition, symbolically linking past and present through these aerial passages.

Nevertheless, this flight remains impressive, even worrying for the capital's inhabitants and tourists, who may have the opportunity to look up to admire this rare passage.
