Since July 20, 2024, the T+ transport ticket, which allows you to use the metro, bus, streetcar and RER in Paris, has cost four euros each. Before this date, the ticket cost 2.15 euros. This price increase is due to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Ile-de-France transport authority insists that this is a strategic choice: the aim is to ensure that Ile-de-France residents do not use public transport, and that the latter is not saturated during the international sporting event, due to the arrival of thousands of tourists. " The Ile-de-France resident who chooses to pay €4 for a ticket has made the wrong choice: he or she has chosen to pay more ", declared Valérie Pécresse, President of Île-de-France Mobilités.
The Paris Olympics officially ended on August 11, 2024. Yet RATP fares have still not returned to normal. The price of a T+ ticket must remain at four euros up to and including September 8, 2024, i.e. until the end of the Paralympic Games. During the two-week transition between the two events, ticket prices will therefore remain high.
To avoid wasting too much money on public transport, RATP advises travellers to take out the Liberté + pass: a subscription where you only pay for journeys validated at the terminals at the end of each month. With this pass, you pay €1.73 for each journey. You'll receive this pass immediately if you pick it up at a ticket office or station, and a week later if you use the RATP website.
