The Christmas and New Year vacations promise to be complicated on France's roads. Bison Futé forecasts heavy traffic in the outbound direction between December 20 and 24, 2024. Vacation departures and family gatherings will lead to a significant increase in traffic. It is therefore essential toplan ahead to avoid traffic jams.
From Friday December 20, the main roads will be particularly busy, especially towards the Alps (A43 and access to the Mont Blanc Tunnel) and the Mediterranean coast (A7, A50). Freeways serving border countries, such as the A1, A25, A31 and A35, will also experience slowdowns. In the Île-de-France region, traffic will be heavy from late morning onwards, particularly on the A6. North-South transit(A3, A86 and A6B) to the A6 and A10 freeways, as well as the Boulevard Périphérique, will concentrate the main difficulties, intensified by trips to shopping areas and commuting.
On Saturday December 21, in the Paris region, the first difficulties will appear mid-morning. Departures combined with trips to shopping centers and leisure venues could make traffic difficult until late afternoon.
On Monday December 23, still in the Île-de-France region, traffic is expected to slow down from late morning on the routes converging on the A6 and A10 freeways. The high volume of travel during the Christmas vacations, combined with commuter traffic, could complicate traffic until early evening.
On Tuesday December 24, traffic conditions will be more favorable in the morning. However, from late morning onwards, the first slowdowns will begin. The combination of vacation travel, commuting and family gatherings is likely to make traffic difficult throughout the Paris region until early evening.
By planning your travel according to these recommendations, you should increase your chances of travelling with peace of mind during this festive period. For up-to-date information, visit the Bison Futé website.
