Good news for the Parc Zoologique de Paris: a little Patagonian sea lion was born in July 2024, after a gestation period of over a year. Her mother, Neya, was already born in the park in July 2020: in fact, the little one is the third sea lion to be born at the zoo sinceit reopened in 2014. After several weeks away from the other sea lions, Ivy and her mom were able to join the maternity pool located in the sea lion tank, near the entrance to the Patagonia biozone.
Ivy will then be able to join the park's ten other sea lions - and its huge specimens weighing up to 300 kg - in September. The birth itself is already a great victory, as births of Patagonian sea lions are rare: in fact, only four newborns have been recorded in European zoos this year, whereas this species is present in some twenty European zoos.
To see Ivy and her mother Neya in the Patagonian sea lion maternity tank, visit the Parc Zoologique de Paris now!
