This Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Eiffel Tower will light up in gold at 8:30pm to support the fight against pediatric cancers, as part of the Septembre en Or initiative. This light show, exceptionally scheduled outside traditional hours, aims to raise public awareness of these diseases, which affect more than 2,500 children in France every year.
This mobilization, supported by the Gravir collective and the Société française des cancers de l'Enfant, highlights a reality that is often overlooked. As Professor Jean-Hugues Dalle reminds us, these cancers, although rare, are the second leading cause of death in children after accidents. With survival rates of up to 80%, treatment can nevertheless leave lasting after-effects.
This exceptional light show, which usually only takes place on the dot, is there to raise awareness. This Saturday's event is part of a wider awareness campaign organized as part of Septembre en Or, a month dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer.
The organizers of this event are calling for a large-scale mobilization on the Trocadéro square, from where the Eiffel Tower can be seen sparkling at 8.30pm. Why not also visit the Pont d'Iéna, now pedestrianized. This illumination of the Eiffel Tower, an emblematic monument of Paris, sends out a powerful message: even in the heart of the City of Lights, we can help light the way towards a cancer-free future for children. Whether you visit the site or admire the Iron Lady from afar, this event is an opportunity to remember that raising awareness is essential in the fight against these diseases, which are still all too prevalent.
Supported by the world's leading research centers, this initiative aims to promote scientific advances in targeted therapies andimmunotherapy. Two Olympic champions, Shirine Boukli and Romane Dicko, will be on hand at the Trocadéro to encourage public support for this vital cause.
Whether you're on the spot or gazing at the glittering Eiffel Tower from afar, this moment of solidarity is a reminder of the importance of supporting research to give children affected by cancer a better future.
