Didn't get a chance to see theParis Opera ' sSwan Lake ? You can remedy this by watching it in one of the 230 cinemas showing it this Friday, November 8 at 7pm and Sunday, November 10 at 4pm. For the first time ever, the ballet is being shown in IMAX format in cinemas all over the world.
But what is the IMAX format? A cinematographic technology offering superior image quality, with much higher resolution than conventional formats, and a much larger, often curved screen. With this format, you'll be able to see every detail of theParis Opera 's Swan Lake at the cinema, just like hundreds of other people around the world.
This is not the first time a concert, dance performance or play has been shown on the big screen, but it will be the first time it has been done using IMAX technology. The idea came from Pathé Live, a subsidiary of Pathé Cinéma, which filmed Swan Lake last spring for theParis Opera.
Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, premiered in 1887, did not immediately meet with the success he had hoped for. Julius Reisinger's first choreography was poorly received by the critics. It was only a few years later, under the impetus of choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, that the ballet triumphed. It went on to become one of the world's most legendary ballets, so much so that today it is regularly performed in prestigious venues such as theParis Opéra. This success explains why the ballet is being shown in 230 cinemas in France, and many more around the world, on November 8 and 10, 2024.
