The 13th arrondissement of Paris celebrates Chinese New Year with 2 weeks of entertainment, from February 8 to 25, 2024. Immerse yourself in this culture from the other side of the world through exhibitions, shows, concerts and other activities, not forgetting the famous festive parade.
February 10 is Lunar New Year, a very important date in the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese calendars, as it marks the beginning of the New Year in these cultures! From Hong Kong to Paris, this event is celebrated with a rich variety of activities: parades, workshops, exhibitions... The Mairie du 13e, the arrondissement with the best-known Chinatown, organizes a wide range of events every year.
This Year of the Dragon is no exception, so we're off to discover the rich and varied program. The Wooden Dragon represents ambition, confidence and intelligence, promising a year of leadership and adventure. From February 8 to 25, 2023, Mairie du 13e is pulling out all the stops and offering a program for all audiences, and above all, free of charge.
On the program:
- The event opens with the "Han Style New Year" show on February 9 at the Mairie du 13e. An immersion in oriental culture with artistic performances, paper-cutting and calligraphy workshops, and a tasting of exotic teas.
- On Friday February 9, a lion dance performance also awaits you in front of the Tang Frères store.
- The "Allers-Retours" film festival, from February 2 to 11, offers an exploration of Chinese auteur cinema, with enriching exchanges with the directors.
- The concert by GUO Gan and friends, on February 16, subtly blends Eastern and Western melodies, while the show "La Grenouille et le Pipa voyageur", on February 17, offers a fascinating journey through tales, music and dance. On the same day, K-pop fans can take part in the Lunar Random Play Dance, a convivial dance event at the Centre Commercial Italie Deux.
- The highlight of the festivities is undoubtedly the Chinese New Year - Lunar New Year Grand Parade, on February 18. This parade, the biggest in the capital, is an explosion of color, dragon and lion dances, fairy characters and traditional costumes, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators.
- We continue with a Chinese New Year concert with the Orchestre chinois de Paris on February 21 at 6pm at the Centre Commercial Italie Deux, Level 3, 30 avenue d'Italie. Open to the general public, part of a Chinese New Year celebration from February 10 to 21.
- Screening of the film "Il était un pont au Vietnam" on February 22 from 7pm to 9:30pm at the Mairie du 13e, Salle des fêtes, 1 place d'Italie. Public event with prior concert.
- La Nuit Magique de la Fête" classical Chinese danceshow on February 23 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Mairie du 13e, Salle des fêtes, 1 place d'Italie. Open to the general public, presented by the Compagnie de Danse Chinoise de Paris under the direction of WANG Wenhu.
- Festival du Printemps on February 24 from 2pm to 7pm at Mairie du 13e, Salle d'attente des mariages and Salle des fêtes, 1 place d'Italie. Public event celebrating Asian cultures.
- Exhibition "La Paix" by Hom Nguyen from February 8 to 29 at Mairie du 13e, Antichambre, Galerie Athéna, 1 place d'Italie. Free admission with opening on February 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
- Nomades" exhibition by A-Yin from February 8 to 25 at Mairie du 13e, Galerie Bièvre, 1 place d'Italie. Free admission, opening February 12 at 6:30pm.
- Event registration available via QR codes. Also included are the "Festival Allers-Retours du cinéma d'auteur chinois" from February 2 to 11 and "La Grenouille et le Pipa Voyageur" on February 17.
