Built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and located directly opposite the Château de Versailles, the Petite écurie is a place often overlooked by visitors. However, this building is also home to many works of art: it houses the sculpture and casting galleries, as well as the Restoration Department of the Museums of France. The stable is also home to one of the finest reserves of sculptures in the Château de Versailles and the Musée du Louvre.
In the 17th century, this building was used to store the Court's carriages and house the carriage horses. It was occupied by the army in the 19th century, before assuming an important role in the preservation of France's artistic heritage. Today, it houses exceptional collections of 17th and 18th century casts, as well as pieces of Greek and Roman architecture.
In the shadow of the splendid Château de Versailles, this little stable doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's time to change that! This Saturday, May 17, 2025, on the occasion of the 21st Nuit des Musées, come and visit this little-known place, home to priceless treasures.
Le programme est mis à jour en fonction des annonces officielles.
The Nuit des Musées is a great opportunity to rediscover our artistic and cultural heritage for less! Shall we go?
