On the program for this Fête de la Musique 2024 at the Italian Cultural Institute:

  • Chant minimal : la chanson populaire de la Basilicate
With Graziano Accinni (guitar) and Giuseppe Forastiero (vocals)
    Jardin de l'Hôtel de Galliffet
    A 19h
Accompanied by Giuseppe Forastiero on vocals, guitarist Graziano Accinni interprets ancient songs from the Lucan devotional tradition. A halo of mysticism surrounds each piece performed; the singing is minimal because it is an invitation to seek the root of all things, a tribute to silence, essentiality and interiority.

  • Canto a tenore" from Sardinia
By the Su Riscattu singing group from Lodè (Nuoro province) with Luciano Asole (voice), Adriano Canu (half-voice), Manuel Carzedda (bass), Antonello Basile (baritone) and Mirko Carta (baritone and accordion); presentation and explanations by Stefano Pira
    Jardin de l'Hôtel de Galliffet
    A 20h30
Canto a tenore, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a polyphonic song from Sardinia's pastoral culture, performed by a group of four singers arranged in a circle: the soloist sings the melody, prose or poem, while the others join in the chorus. The Su Riscattu group was born in 2010 out of a desire to keep this tradition alive.

As a reminder, the Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry of Culture's studies and research department conducted a major survey of French cultural practices. It revealed that five million people, including one young person in two, play a musical instrument. So Jack Lang, architect and scenographer Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret came up with the idea of a major popular event to enable all musicians to express themselves and make themselves known. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
