Every year, she gets thousands of French people dancing and singing the night away. No, she's not the new artist phenomenon of the moment. But I am talking about the Fête de la Musique, which has been bringing us wonderful musical moments for over 40 years now.
Every June 21, this great, free, popular and festive event brings live music to the four corners of France. With the aim of giving a voice to budding musicians and novice groups, the Fête de la Musique is often an opportunity to discover up-and-coming young artists, whatever their musical style. From rap to rock, classical to electro, jazz to blues, reggae to French variety... there's something for everyone! Every June 21, music takes over the streets and many other places, some of them unusual.
Once again this year, theInstitut du Monde Arabe is taking part in the new Fête de la Musique. TheInstitut du Monde Arabe (IMA) is a French cultural institute dedicated to the Arab world, located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. Throughout the year, the cultural center offers visitors a wide range of exhibitions and events.

OnFriday, June 21, 2024, for the Fête de la musique, the Arab World Institute is concocting an original event, labeled a Cultural Olympiad by Paris 2024. The concept? Throughout the day on June 21, a musical flame will be relayed from host country to host country - 24 countries in all - ending its journey on the forecourt of the Arab World Institute in the early evening.
At the end of this musical relay, the public will be treated to a performance of"Pulsation" by the renowned Franco-Lebanese trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf on the IMA forecourt from 7 to 8 pm. "Maalouf 's proposal is to make available to as many people as possible a recognizable rhythmic base - that of the heartbeat - from which everyone can develop their own musical interpretation, with or without an instrument, and across all genres and levels," states the IMA on its website, adding that " everyone can choose the heartbeat mode that suits them to compose their own melody or piece: percussion, hand clapping, beat box...".
And that's not all, as the festivities continue with a free"IMA x Konbini" evening (subject to availability) on the forecourt of the Arab World Institute from 8:30 pm to 1:30 am.
