Music will be resounding throughout Paris and the Île-de-France region on Friday, June 21, 2024 for the new Fête de la musique.
Organized for the first time in France in 1982, the Fête de la Musique was the brainchild of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and cabinet member. At the time, their objective was simple: to launch a major event enabling all musicians to play and make a name for themselves during a festive evening.
For over 40 years now, it's been an ongoing success. Every June 21, budding musicians and singers take to the streets to make live music resound in all its forms. There's something for everyone, whether you like rock, rap, electro, reggae, classical, zouk, metal, French variety, blues or jazz!
During the traditional Fête de la musique, music takes over many areas of the capital, including the 5th arrondissement, and more specifically the Place du Panthéon. And did you know? For a long time, the Place du Panthéon was one of the few squares in the capital to be completely devoid of vegetation. Since its redevelopment in 2018, potted trees have adorned this mythical square, where the famous Pantheon stands. Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Jean Jaurès, Félix Éboué, Jean Moulin, Pierre and Marie Curie, Germaine Tillion and Simone Veil are all buried here.
And every year, during the Fête de la Musique, free concerts are held on the Place du Panthéon. Discover the program that awaits you on June 21, 2024!
