In Paris, the Fête de la Musique is also being celebrated at the Petit Palais this year, with a free and original concert on the menu to be discovered on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 12:30 pm. A rendez-vous between art and music.

Music resounds loudly in the auditorium of the Petit Palais: this Friday, June 21, 2024, for the new edition of the Fête de la Musique, the Paris museum opens its doors to talented artists, and to the public fond of art and parties! During this free event, enjoy the encounter between art and music, in a majestic setting.

Launched for the first time in France in 1982, the Fête de la Musique is a not-to-be-missed event that takes place every year on June 21, the summer solstice. The festival takes the form of a great popular celebration, where music takes center stage. Amateurs and professionals alike are invited to make their voices or instruments heard all over the country. Whatever your style or talent, you're always invited to the party!

Fête de la musique, exhibition, conference... Any occasion is a good reason to visit the Petit Palais! The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Paris is a work of art in itself. Built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, this listed building houses tens of thousands of paintings, sculptures, engravings, drawings, objets d'art and furniture by the greatest European and international artists.

After a tour of the concert halls, the young musicians are invited to build a program around a work that has particularly impressed them. For the Fête de la Musique, we welcome the Galilée quartet.

  • Around Eugène Delacroix's Combat du Giour et du Pacha
Although the Lied has a very gentle tone, the music composed by Mendelssohn takes some very intense emotional turns. The common theme of the quartet and Delacroix's work is love, or the love story, sometimes sweet and beautiful, sometimes strong and painful.
    Felix MENDELSSOHN (1809-1847)
String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13

  • Around the Paysage de Provence. View of Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt. (1867) by Paul Guigou
Paysage de Provence. Vue de Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt by Paul Guigou is a nostalgic work of art, which perfectly describes the similarities that exist on Earth, as different as all the parts of the world may be. In the same way, surprisingly, some places seem quite similar. This work of art, for example, would resemble the landscapes of the Galilee Quartet's hometown, Maghar, on the border between Upper and Lower Galilee. Corresponding in this way with the work Tour in Galilee, the painting can give a clear image of the magnificent landscapes Mostafa had in mind when composing the work, thinking again and again of the beauty of Galilee rediscovered in southern Europe.
    Mostafa SAAD: Tour in Galilee
Mostafa SAAD: Esordio for string quartet
  • Autour du Soleil couchant sur la Seine à Lavacourt, effet d'hiver (1880) by Claude Monet
As the quartet was the last piece Fauré composed, Monet's painting of the sun setting in a mysterious mist is a fitting end to something beautiful and moving.
    Gabriel FAURÉ (1845-1924)
String Quartet in E minor, Op. 121

This year, the Petit Palais is kicking off the festivities early! So we can enjoy several concerts throughout this festive day in Paris.
